the re-enactment of the battle of Oudenaarde takes place on saterday 12 and sunday 13 july 2008

This re-enactment will be absolutely unique and on a scale seldom seen before in Flanders.  240 foot soldiers, 40 cavalrymen and at least 40 gunners, manning 10 pieces, come to Oudenaarde.

Including all fringe events no fewer than 400 men and women dressed in historical costumes from the beginning of the 18th century will feature in the re-enactment.  The groups are mainly foreign and come from e.g. Portugal, Czechia, Russia, Italy and the United Kingdom.  No fewer than 12 nationalities will be represented.  The soldiers’ kit and uniforms are perfect copies of the originals from the beginning of the 18th century.

Also the weapons and battle techniques are completely in conformity with the rules of the art of warfare as applied by the French and allied armies that fought in the War of the Spanish Succession.
